Smokeless Tobacco

Smokeless Tobacco (also called Dipping Tobacco , Dip or Moist Snuff ) is the English-language name for loose tobacco from the USA ; the translation into German is smokeless tobacco . It is a special type of chewing tobacco . Both the coarse ( long cut ) and the fine ( fine cut ) are removed from the jar and placed pressed together between the gums and lower lip. The nicotine is absorbed through the oral mucosa. The flow of saliva causes the tobacco to mix with the saliva , creating tobacco juice. This is usually spat out (especially after the tobacco has worn off).

The largest manufacturer is US Smokeless (Skoal, Copenhagen, Rooster, Husky). Other well-known manufacturers are Conwood (Kodiak, Grizzly) and Pinkerton Tobacco (Timberwolf, Longhorn).

Smokeless Tobacco has been linked to a wide variety of cancers including oral cancer , lip cancer , and tongue cancer . The nitrosamine values ​​of the individual varieties vary significantly, the "Silver Creek" brand has the highest nitrosamine value. The average nitrosamine value is around 12  ppm , which is roughly equivalent to a Marlboro full-flavor cigarette.

According to a study by the Canadian University of Alberta, however, the use of smokeless tobacco is at most a negligible factor in the development of the supposedly obvious oral cancer and not its trigger. In addition, these products are far less harmful than cigarette smoke.
