Smolenskaja nabereschnaja ( Russian Смоленская набережная ) in Moscow is a section of the embankment along the Moscow River between the Novoarbatsky and Borodinsky bridges. It is located on the left bank of the river in the Arbat district in the Central Administrative District and is about 800 meters long.

history

In the 17th century there was a Tschepnoi Dwor , a building yard for court carpenters , where wooden structures for the tsar's court were made. In 1668 a wooden church for Nikolaus von Myra was built here. Tschepnoi Dvor was closed in 1713 because the capital was relocated to Saint Petersburg , after which meat was packaged here for the Smolensky market, and a timber trade was established. In 1812 all wooden buildings burned down. Then a quay was built , originally called Worgunichina Gora and called Smolenskaya in the late 19th century . When the Borodinsky Bridge was cleared in 1912, the Smolenskaya nabereschnaja was completely covered with cobblestone. The embankment was paved in the 1930s and built on with buildings in the style of Stalinist classicism in the 1930s to 1950s .
