The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation ( Russian Министерство иностранных дел Российской Федерации (МИД России) Ministerstwo inostrannych del Rossiyskoy Federazii (MID Rossii) , literally Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation ) is the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia and one of the 21 ministries of the Government of Russian Federation . It is directly subordinate to the President .
Activity and structure
The MID is the federal authority of Russia, which is responsible for the conception and implementation of state policy in foreign affairs. Both the MID itself and the foreign representations belonging to it , the representations in supranational organizations and regional representations of the MID within Russia are active in this area. The tasks and powers of the MID are regulated in the statute on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, which is laid down in its current version by presidential decree of January 30, 2007.
The ministry is divided into 33 departments (also called departments ). Of these, 13 departments are organized according to the regions in which it operates (so-called territorial departments ), the remaining 20 according to their functions ( functional departments ). Among the territorial divisions include for example the Second CIS Department (responsible for Belarus , Ukraine and Moldova ), the first European Department (most Western European countries, including France , Spain and Italy ), the Third European Department (most countries of Central - and Eastern Europe, but also Germany , Austria and Switzerland ), the North America department or the Middle East department . The functional departments include the Department of International Organizations , the Consular Department , the Department for Working with Russian Citizens Abroad , the Department for Pan-European Cooperation, and others.

The main building of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which is 172 m high, is located on Smolenskaya Sennaya Square. Arbat Street ends there at the Gartenring . It was built in 1948–1953 and is one of the so-called Seven Sisters that were built under Josef Stalin .
Educational institutions
Diplomatic training takes place at the International Faculty of Lomonosov University , at the State Institute for International Relations and at the Diplomatic Academy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, both in Moscow.
