Snagit is primarily software from TechSmith for creating and improving screenshots , but it can also be used to record video from the screen.

The first version came on the market in 1990 as a Windows version. It extends the screenshot functionality of the operating system (key "pressure", Eng. Print Screen ) to further options such as direct screen shot selection (so that a post-processing step after creating the screenshots omitted) or direct subsequent comments on the screenshots with arrows and texts or the simplified cutting out and deliberation of undesired areas of the screen.

In contrast to the Vista Snipping Tool from Windows , you can "take pictures" of an entire website including the area that can only be accessed by scrolling , so that you do not have to merge several screenshots.

Newer versions (currently version 12) focus on making the many functions as easy to use via a better user interface as if they only offered basic functions.

Since December 2009 there is also a version Snagit for Mac. The GUI of the Mac version is typically tidier for a Mac version than a Win version. What is innovative is that the different screenshot recording modes that can be called up separately in many competitor products can all be accessed with the same call and, depending on where the mouse pointer is, it can be an area photo, entire screen, or if you click on an arrow that appears Scrolling takes place.
