The snapback cap is a special version of the classic baseball cap that can be adjusted in size using a plastic snap button . As a rule, the snapback cap has a flexible peak with around six to eight seams that serve as optical details. The head part of the snapback cap is often made up of six triangular pieces of fabric of the same size. In the meantime, however, there are also fashionable five-part versions of the snapback cap. In order to increase the wearing comfort and to facilitate the exchange of air, there are mostly embroidered ventilation eyelets on the side. Alternatively, there are also caps with a net-like back, the so-called mesh caps or trucker caps. The small button sewn on in the middle of the head section is typical of almost all snapback caps.

The snapback cap has its origin in the USA, where it has been worn since the 1950s.

It developed from the classic baseball cap, which is worn in the American professional league MLB , but in contrast to this, the size can be adjusted using the snap fastener. As a result, it can be produced in larger numbers in a uniform size and is therefore cheaper than the so-called "fitted" caps. In the years that followed, the various types of caps developed into popular fan articles, especially among the baseball team's fan communities. As a result of this success, the snapback cap also developed further and was individualized through the colors and emblems of the individual teams.

Hip-hop culture and today's distribution

In the 2000s, the snapback cap became an integral part of the clothing of many hip-hoppers . Artists like Tyga , Mac Miller or Wiz Khalifa also made the snapback cap known by wearing it in their videos, on album covers or in their free time.

Today the snapback cap is also part of the appearance in many different sports, e.g. B. in golf and tennis or in motorsport. It has also become part of the uniform in many professions. In recent years, the snapback cap has also been used by many celebrities as a special accessory in everyday outfits and has continued to find its way into the fashion world.
