The Church of Snappertuna

Snappertuna is located on the Snappertunaån river around 15 kilometers northeast of the center of Ekenäs. In the village there is a wooden church from 1689. The medieval Raseborg Castle is not far from Snappertuna. The course of the Snappertunaån, together with Fagervik Manor in the neighboring municipality of Ingå, is officially one of the 27 national landscapes of Finland .

The community Snappertuna was formed in 1915 by separating from the community Karis . It had an area of 172 square kilometers and, in addition to the main town of the same name, included several villages in the rural area. The population was last just under 1,400. In 1977 the Snappertuna community was dissolved. A large part of the area was incorporated into the town of Ekenäs together with the rural community of Ekenäs , while a smaller part went to Karis. Ekenäs and Karis merged again in 2009 together with the municipality of Pohja to form the town of Raseborg.
