Snellius is an impact crater to the east of the lunar front , on the southeastern edge of Mare Fecunditatis , southwest of Petavius crater and north of Stevinus . The rim of the crater is badly eroded, the inside uneven.
The moon valley Vallis Snellius runs south of Snellius in a north-westerly direction.

The crater was officially named by the IAU in 1935 after the Dutch astronomer and mathematician Willebrord van Roijen Snell .
