The Sociaal-Economische Raad (German: Sozial-Ökonomischer Rat, in short: SER) is the most important advisory body on socio-economic issues in the Netherlands . The council primarily advises the Dutch government and both houses of parliament . The SER consists of representatives from employers' associations , trade unions and independent professors appointed by the King . In the council, 33 members advise and discuss questions of labor market, social and economic policy. In addition, the council promotes the development of general societal degrees, e.g. B. in pension and energy policy and so-called convenanten for corporate social responsibility .

composition

The council consists of 33 members, one third each from representatives of employers, employees and independent experts who conduct research at Dutch universities on issues related to the labor market, e.g. B. Labor law, economics or social diversity / integration. The member who presides over the Council is also appointed by the King and is one of the independent experts, the so-called kroonleden . The former PvdA parliamentary group leader Mariëtte Hamer has chaired the council since 2014 . Each member has a deputy. As a result, each of the three parties has 11 members.

  • VNO-NCW (seven seats)
    • The chairman is also the co-vice chairman of the council
  • MKB-Nederland (three seats)
  • LTO Nederland (one seat)

Employees' associations:

  • FNV (seven seats)
    • The chairman is also the co-vice chairman of the council
  • CNV (two seats)
  • VCP (two seats)

Independent experts (eleven seats), including:

  • Chairperson
  • Representative at the Dutch Central Bank
  • President of the Centraal Planbureau
  • President of the Sociaal en Cultureel Planbureau
  • University professors / university lecturers
