Società Editrice Sonzogno

The Società Editrice Sonzogno (Verlagsgesellschaft Sonzogno) is an Italian book and magazine publisher in Milan .

The company was founded in 1804 by Giovanni Battista Sonzogno as a printing company and quickly developed into one of the leading companies in the Italian-speaking world. In addition to numerous illustrated works, a whole series of compilations such as Biblioteca classica economica , Biblioteca universale and Biblioteca romantica economica have been published . Newspapers such as Il Secolo or Il Secolo Illustrato and fashion magazines were added later.

In 1874 a music shop was founded, which was run by Edoardo Sonzogno , a grandson of the founder. Works by Georges Bizet , Jules Massenet , Pietro Mascagni , Ruggero Leoncavallo , Giacomo Puccini , Umberto Giordano and Francesco Cilea have been published here.

In 1943 the publishing house was completely destroyed in an Allied bombing raid.

The publishing house has been part of the Fabbri publishing group since 1980 .
