A pedestal is

  • in technology generally a holder or socket (technology)
  • in structural engineering, a block with an opening for setting up a component (mast, shaft, etc.), see base (architecture)
  • in structural engineering, the lowest segment of a column or a similarly structured component; the base follows the base (architecture)
  • in art the pedestal on which a statue, sculpture or other sculpture stands, see pedestal
  • In architecture, the lowest storey, if it is above the top of the ground, the basement
  • in the geology of the continental shelf
  • a holder for processors, see processor socket
  • a holder in luminaires for lamps, see lamp base
