Sodipodi is an editor for vector graphics under Unix and Windows , which was published by Lauris Kaplinski as free software under the GNU General Public License and later further developed by a team. It uses SVG as its native file format and can also export graphics as raster graphics ( bitmap ) in PNG format . The last published version 0.34 is from February 11, 2004.
Sodipodi started on the basis of the vector graphics editor Gill by Raphael Levien .
Sodipodi aimed for free, artistic design rather than the full implementation of SVG. So some of the Sodipodi developers started a new project to create a fully compliant SVG editor called Inkscape , which should use existing standards instead of proprietary solutions.
On March 31, 2005 the program code development archive was closed and the further development of Sodipodi was stopped.
Since January 1st, 2009 there have been changes in the source code by Kaplinski, but no new version yet.
