Sole water pressure

Groundwater pressure , also groundwater pressure, is the effect of buoyancy on the foundation floor of surface foundations and hydraulic structures such as a dam or a weir . The sole water pressure is an upward force that counteracts the weight of the structure. On the water side of the structure, the sole water pressure is usually the same as the water pressure from the storage space . It breaks down between the water side and the air side .

The bed water pressure under dams is measured at pressure measuring points or in boreholes. Either the water pressure is measured directly with a manometer or the level in a standpipe ( standpipe level ).

The bed water pressure can also be determined from a flow network .

The bed water pressure is important for the stability of dams, especially gravity dams . It can be reduced by creating a sealing curtain (a compression) or a drainage system . The reduction in groundwater pressure is referred to as the lambda value.
