Ichida Soichi

Ichida Sōichi ( Japanese 市 田 左右 一 ; * December 30, 1910 in Tokyo Prefecture ; † June 30, 1986 ) was an important Japanese philatelist .

Life

His father had a very large stamp collection and had the first offset printing company in Japan. He completed a degree in metallurgy , which he completed with a doctorate. During his studies he took part in the 1936 Summer Olympics as a football player . Later he was president of a Japanese steel company.

It was only relatively late, around 1950, that his own interest in philately emerged and he wrote pioneering books in the field. He probably had the most important collection of Japanese stamps at the time. Nationally as well as internationally, he held top philatelic positions.
