Sojola is the brand name for a soy-based vegetable fat spread and vegetable oil from the Belgian food company Vandemoortele .

In the 1970s, the demand for soy products grew. Soybean oil is extracted from the soybean . The soy extraction meal produced in this way found more sales by leaps and bounds with the expansion of meat consumption. Growing health awareness also increased the need for fats of non-animal origin. The Belgian food manufacturer Vandemoortele took up this development and developed the Sojola brand. The Sojola spread was protected by the DPMA as a word and image trademark with the registration number 302010011115. Sojola Oil was launched in 1991. The Sojola spread follows in 1993.

According to the manufacturer, the Sojola spread was cholesterol -, lactose - and gluten-free right from the start and, according to the manufacturer, is therefore suitable for supporting nutrition in the event of corresponding health problems. In 2010 the recipe of the Sojola spread was changed again. Vitamins of animal origin have been removed from the product. This is why the Sojola spread can now also be used for a vegan diet .

Stiftung Warentest rated the Sojola spread in February 2008 with a grade of 2.1. It landed - together with 2 other products - 7th out of 27 margarines.

According to the manufacturer, the Sojola spread contains 64% soybean oil (partly hardened), as well as coconut oil and water. Mono- and diglycerides of fatty acids, lecithins (soy) and citric acid esters of mono- and diglycerols of fatty acids are used as emulsifiers . It also contains salt (0.5%), flavors, the acidifier citric acid, the coloring agent beta-carotene and vitamins A and E. The total fat content is 70%. According to Council Regulation (EC) No. 2991/94 of December 5, 1994 with standards for spreadable fats, the Sojola spread is not a margarine, but has the sales description "spreadable fat".

Sojola oil is a pure soy oil. It is rich in polyunsaturated fatty acids and vitamin E. Lt. According to the manufacturer, it is suitable for cooking, baking and roasting.

According to the manufacturer's assurance, the soybean oil used in production is refined exclusively from so-called IP soy. The abbreviation IP stands for “identity preserved” and guarantees that the raw materials used can be traced back to the place of cultivation and that only genetically unmodified seeds are used.

Sojola oil is delivered in 1 l PET bottles . The Sojola spreadable fat is available in 500 g cups.
