The Vandemoortele Group is an unlisted joint stock company ( Naamloze vennootschap , NV) with its headquarters in Ghent ( Belgium ). The company, founded in 1899, is still managed by the Vandemoortele family.
Vandemoortele produces and sells frozen baked goods , patisserie and Vienoisserie as well as margarines , fats and oils . The Vandemoortele group of companies has 34 production sites in 12 European countries. In 2013, the group employed around 4,800 people, 380 of them in Germany and Austria.
The German branch of Vandemoortele Europe NV is headquartered in Herford, East Westphalia . All products for Germany and Austria are sold from there.
history
Vandemoortele was founded in Izegem , Belgium in 1899 . From 1958 the company expanded in other European countries. From 1969 to 2009 there were various start-ups, takeovers and joint ventures (including Meylip , Hobum, Vamo Mills, Vamix, Alpro, Croustifrance, Sobrie, Cottes, Gourmand Poland, Panavi). In 2009 the company sold its soy business ( Alpro ) to the US producer Dean Foods . It was decided from now on to concentrate on the core areas of baked goods and lipids (fats). In 2010, Vandemoortele took over the margarine and fat business from Van Dijk Food Products.
In 1969 the Vandemoortele Group took over the Meyer-Lippinghausen company from Herford, which had previously been family-owned. It was renamed "Meylip" and from 1980 supplied the bakery and confectionery trade in Germany and Austria. After German reunification , Vandemoortele invested in four production sites taken over by the Treuhandanstalt in Dresden ( Dresdner Margarinewerk ), Riesa , Rostock and Dommitzsch . In 1998, Hobum Öle und Fette GmbH was acquired in Hamburg-Harburg and has been trading in fats and oils for over 100 years. Since June 2014, three previously independent areas have been brought together under the umbrella of a joint company with limited liability. In the course of this merger, 'Meylip Nahrungsmittel GmbH' changed its name to 'Vandemoortele Deutschland GmbH'. In addition, the respective sales areas of 'Hobum Öle und Fette GmbH' Hamburg and 'Vandemoortele Lipids Werke GmbH' Dresden were transferred to 'Vandemoortele Deutschland GmbH'.

While Vandemoortele in the Benelux countries mainly works with food retailers , Vandemoortele in Germany and Austria is mainly active in the business-to-business sector.
In 1980 Meylip was the first to present frozen donuts and a little later also frozen dough pieces of all processing stages.
