history

In 1980, the Belgian food company founded Vandemoortele on natural foods based on soy specialized division Alpro Soya . In 1989 a production plant was built in Wevelgem ( Belgium ) based on the UHT (ultra high temperature) process . In 1996 Alpro took over its competitor Sojinal and thus received an additional production facility for soy milk in Issenheim , France. In 2000, a soy milk factory was built in Kettering , England. In 2006, the Dutch tofu manufacturer Sofine was taken over ( Sofine was taken over by Estavayer Lait in mid-2019 ).

The US dairy group Dean Foods took over the soy division Alpro from Vandemoortele NV on June 17, 2009. In 2012 Dean Foods announced the spin-off of its previous subsidiary The WhiteWave Foods Company , which then became independent in 2013 through an IPO. The brands that WhiteWave took along include Silk, Horizon Organic and others sold in America, as well as the European brands Alpro and Provamel.

In July 2016, the French dairy group Danone submitted a $ 12.5 billion offer to acquire Alpro parent company WhiteWave Foods. The boards of directors agreed and the transaction was completed in April 2017.
