Dean Foods is an American dairy company headquartered in Dallas , Texas . It has been listed on the New York Stock Exchange since March 5, 1997 under the symbol DF and on the S&P 500 stock index since 2006.
Dean Foods produces various products based on milk . In this market segment, Dean Foods is the market leader in the United States. Following the acquisition of Alpro of Vandemoortele 2009 Dean Foods market leader in soy products has been Europe . The Alpro brand was spun off again in 2013 as The WhiteWave Foods Company and sold on the stock exchange by means of an IPO .
At over 100 locations in 38 states , over 14,000 employees produce Dean Foods products. They generated sales of USD 7.33 billion .
history
The company was founded in 1925 by Samuel E. Dean. He acquired the Illinois -based Pecatonica Marketing Company and renamed it the Dean Evaporated Milk Company in 1927 . In the following years Dean acquired other dairies in Illinois. In December 2001 the company was acquired by the competitor Suiza Foods Corporation from Dallas. This resulted in today's Dean Foods company in Dallas.
In the first quarter of 2011, Schreiber Foods took over the yoghurt division from Dean Foods.
In November 2019, Dean Foods, the second largest dairy in the United States, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy .
