Takeda Sōkaku
Takeda Sōkaku ( Japanese 武田 惣 角 ; * November 4, 1859 ( traditionally : Ansei 6/10/10) in Lehen Aizu ; † April 25, 1943 ) was a samurai from the Takeda clan and a well-known martial arts teacher. He became known as the new discoverer of Daitō-ryū and as a teacher of Morihei Ueshiba , the founder of Aikido , and of Choi Yong-sul , the founder of Hapkido .
As a boy, Takeda Sōkaku learned from his father Kenjutsu , Bōjutsu and Sumo . In 1875 he visited Saigō Tanomo in his monastery to receive priestly lessons . There he also learned Oshikiuchi .
