Sokollu Mustafa Pasha

Sokollu Mustafa (* in Sokol south of Višegrad ; † September 30, 1578 or October 1, 1578 in Buda ) was an Ottoman dignitary of Bosnian origin.

He was related to the Grand Vizier Sokollu Mehmed Pascha , cousin or nephew depending on the source. Protected by his famous relative, he was educated in Istanbul and then held various offices in Rumelia . In July 1546 Defterdar in Timisoara . Then Sandschakbey in Fülek , Klis , Szeged and in Herzegovina. Eventually he became Beylerbey first from Bosnia and from Buda in 1566. He held this office until his execution . He was the longest serving Beylerbey of Buda. During his tenure he donated many Islamic buildings in Buda: mosques , hammams and madrasas .

After an explosion caused by a lightning strike in the Powder Tower of Buda, which destroyed half the city, he was finally ordered by Murad III. executed.
