The Benban solar park ( Arabic حديقة بنبان للطاقة الشمسية) is a ground-mounted photovoltaic system in the western desert of Egypt in the Aswan governorate . Under standard test conditions , the entire solar system would have a nominal output in watt peak (W p ) of 1.65  GW p . Under actual solar radiation, maximum outputs between 1.6 GW and 2 GW and an alternating current output of approx. 1.4 GW are expected. With an assumed capacity factor of 26% , the park is supposed to deliver approx. 3.8  TWh of electrical energy annually. It is the largest solar plant in Africa and one of the largest solar power plants in the world - as of 2019 only the Bhadla Solar Park in India was even bigger. It contains a total of 6 million solar modules , which are combined into 41 power plant areas.

Step-by-step commissioning of the power plant

The first sub-area with 64.1 MW p went online in February 2018 and was officially inaugurated on March 13, 2018. It was 85% financed by the Bayerische Landesbank . It was built by the Berlin company IB Vogt. The modules of this power plant part are the sun tracked ( solar tracker ).

According to a report, on September 17, 2019, around 80% of the power plant was completed; the generation capacity was given on September 24th at 1465 MW.
