The Solingen bird and animal park is a 1.5 hectare animal park in Solingen - Ohligs that is open all year round . It is located northwest of the Ohligser Heide on Hermann-Löns-Weg . It is organized as a registered association . The zoo gives its name to the Solingen Vogelpark S-Bahn station, a few hundred meters away .

Livestock

The animal population developed from the original pure bird park to a mixed animal park with numerous domestic animals . There are also barbary macaques , small carnivores such as coatis , servals , lynxes , arctic foxes , raccoon dogs , wild cats and raccoons , kangaroos and maras . The largest part of the population is still the bird world, including many species of parrots rarely shown in zoos , exotic songbirds , vultures , tortoiseshell and palm vultures .

Around 300 animals of 80 species are shown .

history

The zoo was founded in 1927 in the then still independent community of Ohligs.

In the 1980s the park was on the verge of collapse due to a lack of club members, but it could be saved and most of the old enclosures and cages were renewed. In May 2009 the association filed for bankruptcy due to high debts, and operations are maintained by the Freundeskreis.
