The Ohligser Heide is a partially forested former heathland area in the urban area of Solingen - Ohligs in North Rhine-Westphalia . It is part of the Bergische Heideterrassen and belongs to the Hilden-Lintorfer Sandterrassen natural area . It is under nature protection. In the long term, clearing should create a larger heather area than the original cultural landscape .

The nature reserve is set at 147.24 hectares and borders on the federal motorway 3 ( A3) in the west . There is a rest area called " Ohligser Heide ". It is limited in the north by the Rhein-Ruhr S-Bahn (S 1) . In the east, on the border of the heather area, is the Solingen- Ohligs forest cemetery . Schwanenstrasse and Langhansstrasse form the southern edge . The Engelsberger Hof is located in the Ohligser Heide , a former estate that has been run as an excursion bar and restaurant by various owners and tenants since the beginning of the 20th century.

According to the State Office for Nature, Environment and Consumer Protection , the nature reserve consists of wet heather , moor and quarry forest and heather ponds . In addition, there are flowing waters with reed beds in the moist lowlands, dry heather , open sandy areas, oak and birch forests .

In the middle of the Ohligser Heide there is a larger lake with a diameter of approx. 80 meters and the Heide outdoor pool . In the context of nature conservation, efforts have been made for years to close the Heidebad in the medium term in order to restore this heavily frequented area to a natural state. This request has so far failed due to the will of the population, but according to the city of Solingen it will be enforced in the near future.

The Ohligser Heide has been used for sheep and goat grazing since Whitsun 2014 . In this way, the species are to be preserved within the scope of nature conservation in the nature reserve.
