history

Rhodia Acetow was one of the first acetate manufacturers . After 1911 first method patents have been granted, introduced Rhodia in 1912 in the French Saint-Fons first cellulose acetate flakes (today's trade name Cerdia® acetol ) ago, which are used in paints and coatings. In 1921 synthetic yarns began to be produced in Roussillon, France, and from 1927 in Freiburg under the name Deutsche Acetat-Kunstseiden Aktiengesellschaft Rhodiaseta . In order to avoid confusion with Seta, a name for pure silk , the Freiburg company was renamed Deutsche Rhodiaceta AG in 1951.

In 1937 the yarn factory was established in Santo André, Brazil ( Rhodia Acetow Brasil ). Shortly after the invention of the cigarette filter cable in the USA (the cables are made as a composite of individual fibers from cellulose acetate flakes dissolved in acetone ), Rhodia Acetow also started this production in 1956 in Freiburg (initially under the brand name Rhiakabel , now Cerdia® Filter Tow ), in 1968 the same in Santo André. In 1992 Acetow took over the majority of the shares in the Venezuelan company Acetco .

Two years later, the Primester plant in Kingsport (USA) went into operation. In 1997, 2001 and 2005 , the Sertow I – III plants were opened in Serpuchow , Russia.

In September 2011 the Belgian Solvay Group took over the French chemical company Rhodia. The German Rhodia companies were renamed on April 2, 2013. Rhodia Acetow GmbH was renamed Solvay Acetow GmbH. Rhodia GmbH changed its name to Solvay P&S GmbH. Both companies operated under the umbrella of the previous Rhodia Deutschland GmbH, which then bore the name Solvay Holding Freiburg GmbH.

At the end of 2016, US financial investor Blackstone bought Solvay's Acetow division. On June 1, 2017, Solvay Acetow GmbH was renamed Rhodia Acetow again. In mid-June 2017, it was announced that Rhodia would become part of a global joint venture with the American chemical giant Celanese . But this plan failed.

In April 2019, the company then renamed Cerdia .
