Solveig Gunbjørg Jacobsen

Solveig Gunbjørg Jacobsen (born October 8, 1913 in Grytviken , South Georgia , † October 25, 1996 ) was the first known person to be born south of the Antarctic Convergence . Her father, Fridthjof Jacobsen (1874–1953), settled in South Georgia in 1904 to become assistant director of the Grytviken whaling station , of which he was director from 1914 to 1921. Two of Jacobsen's three children and his wife Klara Olette Jacobsen were born on the island. The birth was registered by the British magistrate of South Georgia, James Wilson.

The Jacobsen Valley in the West Antarctic Vinson massif is named after her .
