Chandravamsha
Chandravamsha or Chandramvamshi ( Sanskrit चन्द्रवंशी candravaṃśī m. , Literally "lunar dynasty"), also Somavamsha ( सोमवंश somavaṁśa ), is a mythical dynasty in Hinduism . It divides into two main lines, the Yadava and the Paurava . Even today, various Indian family groups refer to themselves as descendants of this dynasty.
ancestry
This lunar dynasty comes from the moon god Chandra , although the family trees are not given uniformly in the Indian scriptures. His son Budha ("Mercury") married Manu's daughter Ida . From these descend in the fifth generation Yadu and Puru, the eponymous ancestors of the two lines.
The best-known representative of the Yadava family is Krishna , an avatar of the god Vishnu , who, according to legend , ruled Dvaraka as a prince . The line of the Paurava later divided into the warring lines of the Pandava and Kaurava , whose struggles are described in the Indian national epic Mahabharata .
The sun dynasty (Suryavamsha), on the other hand, descends from Ida's brother Ikshvaku .
