Somebody to Love is a rock song by the rock band Queen . It was released on November 12, 1976 as the first single from the album A Day at the Races and is one of the most famous songs by the band. He is also on the albums Greatest Hits and (in a cover version together with George Michael ) Greatest Hits III .

The piece was written by Freddie Mercury on the piano . Similar to the Bohemian Rhapsody published the year before, it is based on a rather complex melody and a gospel choir arrangement. Roger Taylor described the piece as being influenced by Aretha Franklin .

Cover versions

The piece was sung by George Michael at the Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert in April 1992 on the occasion of Mercury's death . There are many other versions, be it z. B. live or in films, for example by Anne Hathaway , Brittany Murphy or Tony Hadley . A cover version of Troye Sivan was released on November 2, 2018 .
