For the first time, a team of independent Paralympic participants , consisting of two athletes, took part in the Summer Paralympic Games that took place in Rio de Janeiro in 2016 . These were refugees or asylum seekers . The British Tony Sainsbury, who had already coached the British Paralympics team five times, acted as their boss de mission .
