The summer shrew rat ( Sommeromys macrorhinos ) is a rodent from the group of old world mice (Murinae). It was described in 2002 and is closely related to the shrew rats ( Crunomys ).

Sommeromys macrorhinos is a very small representative of the old world mice with a head body length of around 10 centimeters. The snout is elongated, the tail is noticeably elongated at around 19 centimeters. The fur is gray-brown in color.

The species is so far only known from one site on the Indonesian island of Sulawesi (in the province of Sulawesi Tengah ). Their habitat are mountainous rainforests at 2,400 meters above sea level. The species is nocturnal, it lives on the ground, but can also climb well. Their diet is likely to consist mainly of insects .

Nothing is known about the degree of endangerment, the IUCN lists the species under “too little data available” ( data deficient ).
