The castle summer stone generally, Summer Stone called, is an Outbound lowland castle on the southern edge of the district Winterstein the city Waltershausen in the district of Gotha ( Thuringia ).

The castle complex was at the beginning of an old road that led to the border meadow on the "Kleinen Inselsberg" and from there to the Werra valley around Schmalkalden and Breitungen . The castle stable still shows the moat and is now a ground monument . With “summer” and “winter” the cardinal points were also indicated in the Middle Ages, therefore the name Sommerstein refers to the fortifications located on the southern edge of the valley (and place), in contrast to Winterstein on the northern edge of the historical location.
