The special badge commander for the commander of a warship of the Navy of the Bundeswehr denotes the prominent service position and the legal status of this service post, which is unique in the Federal Republic of Germany .

The special badge is designed as a five-pointed star (starfish). Its tips lie on an endless ring stylized as a rope (diameter 20 mm). It is metal stamped and gold colored. A starfish also has the career badge "Starfish" for officers and cadets of the army service and military technical service of the Navy.

Authorization to carry

Soldiers of the Navy who hold the position of "commanding officer" are entitled to wear them . There is no separate obligation to provide evidence, as the occupation of the "Commandant" post is entered in the additional file / transparent cover / master file. The commander's badge may be worn after instruction in the post and after taking command. It may not be awarded “on an honorary basis”.

The commander's badge is worn on the right side of the chest over the breast pocket, in the case of service jackets without patch pockets in the appropriate place. If there are several special badges, the commander's badge is worn at the top. Self-procured hand or machine embroidered badges in the matching basic cloth color are either hand embroidered, gold-colored or machine-embroidered, golden yellow on the service suit and formal suit .

Authorization and way of carrying former commanders

The badge can also be worn after being used as a commander. Former commanders then wear it on the left side of the chest under the name tag or in the appropriate place.
