Arnsberg-Holzen special ammunition depot

The special ammunition depot Arnsberg-Holzen was located on the Spulberg near Holzen , a district of Arnsberg , Hochsauerlandkreis . From the 1960s onwards, NATO partners, especially Canada and Great Britain, stored warheads for short-range missiles of the Honest John type ( W-31 warhead ) here. Responsible for the nuclear warheads was, among other things, the 1st SSM Battery , the only Canadian unit that was equipped with nuclear weapons. Other warheads were stored by the British stationed in Menden. The command was the 69th US Army Missile Support Detachment in Hemer .
