Sonic Eraser ( jap. : ソニックイレイザー) is a puzzle - computer game that the Sonic Team developed by Sega for the Sega Meganet via Sega Game Toshokan , a Japan-exclusive online game downloading service for the Sega Mega Drive was released . Since it remained largely unknown for a long time, Sega published the game in 2004 for free on their website.

Gameplay

In this puzzle game, different colored shapes fall from top to bottom, two identical blocks next to each other dissolve and give points, comparable to games like Tetris , Dr. Mario or Columns . The four modes Normal Mode, Round Mode, Doubt Mode and Block Mode go into detail with different rules. Two players can compete against each other. Each playing field is observed by a Sonic Sprite and larger combos are provided with small animations by Sonic. The game has no storyline.

development

Sonic Eraser was the first game by Takao Miyoshi, who programmed other Sega Meganet games and was later involved in Sonic 3D: Flickies' Island and Sonic Adventure , for example . In the game's credits he referred to himself as "Taka Oh", the game's soundtrack was written by Masaru Setsumaru, known as "Bosanova Oyz". In addition, the following names are mentioned in the game's Special Thanks: BigIsland, Osamu, Noisy Pad, Chiesama and Iiyo. The game, which was originally only available in Japanese, was given an English fan-made translation many years later.

The plan to add Sonic Eraser to the Sonic Gems Collection has been discarded. The game was never republished and has no successors.
