Sonic-Team ( Japanese ソ ニ ッ ク チ ー ム , Sonikku Chīmu ; foreign language in Sonic Team ) is a Japanese computer and video game development team from the Sega company .
history
It was founded in 1988 as Sega Amusement Machine Research & Development Department # 8 (AM8). The founder of the team was Yuji Naka. In 1991, because of the great success of Sonic the Hedgehog, the name was changed to Sonic Team. In 2000, the division was spun off as an independent subsidiary, KK Sonic-Team ( 株式会社 ソ ニ ッ ク チ ー ム , Kabushiki kaisha Sonikku Chīmu ). In 2004 the company was reintegrated into Sega and has only served as a brand since then. In the same year the inventor of Sonic , Naoto Ōshima, left the Sonic team and devoted himself to his own project Artoon.
