The Order of the Sun ( Nischan Aftab Order ) was founded by the Shah of Persia , Nāser ad-Din (1848-1896), in 1873 as an order of women .

The order was awarded in particular to monarchs and the wives of monarchs, for example to the German Empress Auguste Victoria , Queen Wilhelmina of the Netherlands and the British Queen Maria von Teck . The order's insignia consisted of a jewel that was worn on the shoulder band and a breast star .

With the fall of the Qajar dynasty in 1925, the order was also abolished.
