Sonora (record label)
Sonora was a Swedish record label specializing in light music and jazz that had existed since the early 1930s.
The record label Sonora was founded in 1932 by Erik Ljungberg; it was sold to Philips in 1958 . Sonora was the first Swedish record label to contribute to jazz in Sweden. From the late 1930s onwards, Swingmusik appeared on a successful swing series. The leading orchestras that recorded on Sonora were Arne Hülphers and Håkan von Eichwald , and from the early 1940s Thore Ehrling and Seymor Österwall. Sonora also recorded music from smaller ensembles such as the Sonora Swing Swingers , which were put together by Thore Jederby, as well as the music of the formations Svenska Hotkvintetten and Nisse Linds Hot-trio , as well as soloists such as Zilas Görling, “Smyget” Redlig and Gösta Törner. The vocalist Alice Babs became best known internationally ; she was only 15 years old when she made her first recordings for Sonora in 1939. In the 1940s she became a teenage idol in Sweden and one of the stars of the label. In 1950 the Putte Wickman Sextet recorded the "Sonora Boogie".
