Adolfo Jorge Bullrich (born December 30, 1833 in Buenos Aires , Argentina , † March 8, 1904 in Paris , France ) was an Argentine businessman and politician. From October 20, 1898 to October 20, 1902 he was mayor of the Argentine capital, Buenos Aires.

Life

Adolfo Bullrich was born in Buenos Aires in 1833 as the son of the German Augusto Bullrich. His father came to Argentina as a prisoner of war and stayed there after his release. He studied in Germany and in 1869 he joined a Masonic lodge in Buenos Aires.

On April 3, 1867, Bullrich founded the company Adolfo Bullrich y Cía. , an auction and consignment house . The building now houses the Patio Bullrich shopping center .

In 1898 Bullrich was appointed mayor of Buenos Aires by President Julio Argentino Roca and held this office for four years. During his term of office, the inauguration of the Nereid Fountain , which caused outrage because of its sculpture of Venus and moved several times. In 1900 he appointed Jorge Newbery "Director del Servicio de Alumbrado de la Municipalidad".

Bullrich died in Paris in 1904 at the age of 70 and found his final resting place in the La Recoleta cemetery .
