Sopheap Pich

Sopheap Pich (* 1971 in Battambang , Republic of Khmer ) is a Cambodian sculptor and installation artist .

life and work

Sopheap Pich was born in Cambodia and fled with his family after the reign of the Khmer Rouge . After receiving a bachelor's degree from the University of Massachusetts Amherst and a master's degree from the School of Art Institute of Chicago in 1999, he returned to Cambodia in 2002. Using local materials - bamboo , rattan, sackcloth , beeswax and earth pigments from Cambodia - he creates sculptures that are inspired by body organs, plant shapes and abstract geometric structures.

Pich participated in numerous exhibitions, including dOCUMENTA (13) in 2012 and the 57th Biennale di Venezia in 2017 .
