Sophie Aldred

Sophie Aldred (born August 20, 1962 in Greenwich , London ) is a British actress and television presenter. Her best-known role is that of the companion Ace in Doctor Who .

Aldred was born in Greenwich, London, but grew up in Blackheath . She attended Blackheath High School from 1973 to 1980 and became an acting student at Victoria University of Manchester , where she graduated in 1983.

In 1987 she got the role of Ace in Doctor Who , which she held from 1987 to 1989. She played the role again in Dimensions in Time and in Doctor Who radio plays.

Aldred is co-author of the book Ace, The Inside Story of the End of An Era with Mike Tucker , published by Virgin Publishing 1996. ( ISBN 1-85227-574-X ). Before and during Doctor Who , she made many appearances on children's television. She also worked on the radio and in the theater .

Aldred has been married to Vince Henderson since July 1997 ; the couple has two sons.
