Sorbian School Association

The Sorbian School Association eV ( Upper Sorbian Serbske šulske towarstwo zt ? / I , abbreviation SŠT ) is one of the largest Sorbian professional associations and was founded in Crostwitz on January 5, 1991 as part of the restructuring of Sorbian institutions and the school system after the reunification of Germany . The association represents Sorbian interests in the fields of bilingual pre-school education as well as in the bilingual education system from day care centers to school types and university education. It is also the sponsor of three Sorbian and four Witaj day-care centers in the Sorbian settlement area with a total of more than 600 children and an expert committee as well as a contact for ministries and institutions on the aforementioned topics. In addition, the Fachverein organizes language camps and competitions such as B. the Olympiads of the Sorbian language.

The establishment of independent Sorbian schools, such as B. the Danish School Association operates, was discussed variously in view of school closings, especially at the beginning of the 2000s, but never implemented.

The Sorbian School Association is a member of the Sorbian umbrella organization, the Domowina . Its members are mostly teachers and educators as well as parents of the children and young people they care for.
