Sosigenes is an impact crater on the front of the moon on the western edge of Mare Tranquillitatis . It is northwest of Arago Crater and southwest of Maclear . It is bowl-shaped with a flat crater floor and hardly eroded.
To the east of the crater there is a system of lunar grooves , the Rimae Sosigenes , which runs in a predominantly north-south direction .

The crater was officially named by the IAU in 1935 after the Greek astronomer Sosigenes from Alexandria .
