Sotsyalistic children color band
The Sotsyalist Children's Farband (SKIF, Socialist Children's Association) was founded in Eastern Europe as a children's organization of the General Jewish Workers' Union of Lithuania, Poland and Russia (called Bund , Yiddish Algemeyner Yidisher Arbeter Bund in Lite, Poyln un Rusland, אַלגמײַנער ײדישער אַרבײטערסבונד אין לילרסבונד אין לי פוילן און רוסלאַנד, Russian Всеобщий еврейский рабочий союз в Литве, Польше и России). The Bund was a Jewish workers' party that was active in several Eastern European countries from 1897 to 1935. The Bund was the nucleus of the Bundist movement and lives on today in several successor organizations (e.g. International Jewish Labor Bund). There was also a youth organization called Tsukunft .
Today the SKIF only exists in Melbourne, Australia, the branch there was founded in 1950. The SKIF Melbourne pursues the goals of Chavershaft (comradeship), Doikayt (presence of Jewish life in the diaspora) and Yiddishliness (Jewish identity). The French branch of SKIF was renamed in 1963 and has been called Club laïque de l'Enfance juive since then.
SKIF in Poland
During the Second World War, various SKIF members became active in the armed Jewish resistance in occupied Poland, for example Marek Edelman , one of the leaders of the Warsaw Ghetto uprising , Boruch Pelc and Jurek Błones . Other well-known SKIF members were the painter Yosl Bergner , the Royal Air Force pilot Rubin Lifszyc and Pola Lifszyc , who organized a theater for children in the Warsaw ghetto. Before the Second World War, SKIF organized summer camps for children and set up playrooms for poor children in Warsaw.
SKIF in Melbourne
SKIF in Melbourne was founded in 1950. The organization offers summer camps for children aged eight to eighteen. The association bears the falcon in its logo, the symbol of socialist children and youth organizations that is widespread worldwide.
