Jurek Błones (* 1922 in Warsaw , Poland ; † May 13, 1943 in Warsaw) was a member of the General Jewish Workers' Union ("Bund") in Poland during World War II and was murdered by the Gestapo .

Life

He was born the son of a commercial worker in Warsaw. When he was 15 years old, his mother passed away. Like his whole family, he became a member of the Socialist Youth Colorands (SKIF) and the " Tsukunft ", the youth organizations of the "Bund". He was described by many comrades as one of the most active and enthusiastic supporters of the "Bund".

After the conquest of Poland at the beginning of the Second World War by the German Wehrmacht , Błones also remained active in illegality. He made newspapers, distributed them, and took on other duties. Błones was also a member of the Bundist fighting organization, which consisted mainly of young people. He was deported to Treblinka with his brother Łusiek , but he was able to escape from the train and went back to Warsaw.

After the Jewish Fighting Organization (ZOB) was founded, he became the leader of a unit near the brush maker factory. Jurek Błones excelled in combat - he saved hundreds of people and gave them protection. He was able to escape from the ghetto with Marek Edelman and around 40 soldiers, but was betrayed on May 13, 1943 and murdered by the Gestapo.

family

Jurek Błones had a sister Gute, born in 1922, and a brother named Łusiek, born around 1930. After her mother's death, 16-year-old Gute took on many household chores and helped raise 8-year-old brother Łusiek. Like Jurek, both were active in the ghetto and took part in the uprising. Like their brother, Łusiek and Gute were able to flee after the fight, but they were betrayed along with Jurek and died on May 13, 1943.

The father was also active in the covenant . He served on the central committee of all trade unions as a representative of the trade union.
