Soumya Swaminathan (2016)

Soumya Swaminathan (born May 2, 1959 in Kumbakonam , Tamil Nadu ) is an Indian pediatrician . She has been the leading scientist at the World Health Organization (WHO) since March 2019 .

Live and act

Swaminathan is the daughter of educationalist Mina Swaminathan and environmental pioneer MS Swaminathan . She studied at the Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC), the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi (AIIMS D) and holds a diploma from the National Board of Examinations . She did research on pediatric pneumology at Childrens Hospital Los Angeles .

From October 2017 to March 2019, she was Vice Director-General for Programs (DDP) of the WHO.
