The South Central Cartel is an American hip hop group from South Central Los Angeles . Their music is assigned to the styles of gangsta rap , hardcore rap and west coast hip hop . The group's leaders are Gary “Havoc” Calvin and Austin “Prodeje” Patterson, who should not be confused with the rappers Havoc and Prodigy from Mobb Deep .

history

The group formed in 1991 after the breakthrough of the other rap collective from the US west coast, NWA .

Her debut album South Central Madness was released at the beginning of 1992 . There was already some genre specific attention and reached number 51 of the Top R & B / Hip-Hop Albums of Billboard magazine .

The breakthrough in the mainstream followed in 1994 with the release of the second long player 'N Gatz We Truss , which reached 32nd place on the Billboard 200 .

In the course of this success, the group signed a recording deal with Def Jam Recordings , which in 1997 released the third album All Day Everyday . After reaching position 178 in the US album charts, the label was no longer interested in further collaboration.

Therefore the fourth work Concrete Jungle, Vol. 1 was published independently . However, commercial significance was no longer achieved, just like with the numerous other albums that were released in the following years.
