South Court

The South Court is a residential building in the Scottish town of St Andrews in the Council Area Fife . In 1959 the building was included as an individual monument in the Scottish monument lists in the highest monument category A.

history

South Court was built during the 15th century but continued to expand into the 17th century. So the southwest wing was added around 1580. In 1862, Scottish architect George Rae renovated the building for J. D. Forbes . Among other things, the extended windows were used here. In the course of restoration work between 1970 and 1973, the paneled oak ceiling with its painted ornaments was exposed again.

The three story building is on South Street ( A918 ) in St Andrews' historic center. Its north-facing main facade is four axes wide. Its facades are plastered with Harl , with the natural stone surrounds being offset. On the right a passage leads to the inner courtyard. The south wing adjoining there is also three-story. The south gable is worked as a stepped gable . The entrance portal there is designed with Doric columns and segmented arched crowns .
