South Dakota Attorney General
The South Dakota Attorney General is one of the constitutional offices of the state of South Dakota . The incumbent is elected by the electorate of South Dakota for a four-year term. A person may serve as Attorney General for a maximum of two consecutive terms. A term coincides with the term of the South Dakota Governor .
The Attorney General's office represents and provides legal advice to agencies, agencies and commissions of the South Dakota government. It also represents the state both before the state court and the federal court as well as in negotiations on administrative ordinances and regulations. It also handles appeals for capital crimes, advises local prosecutors on how to conduct criminal proceedings, and handles cases at the request of local prosecutors. In addition, there are legal opinions which interpret the statutes for the agencies and the political subdivisions of the state.
