The Lake Muir National Park (English: Lake Muir National Park ) is located 84 kilometers southeast of Manjimup and 368 kilometers south of Perth in Western Australia . The national park consists of wetlands with sedge , bushes and trees.

Surname

The name of the national park and Lake Muir probably goes back to the woodcutter Thomas Muir, who was the first European to settle in the Manjimup area.

The national park borders on the Lake Muir Reserve in the south . Lake Muir is north of the park.

The Lake Muir National Park covers an area of ​​96.25 km². According to a plan from 2012, 643 km² of the national park are to be integrated into the 10,889.2 km² Muir-Berup- Ramsar wetland . The wetlands in this area also have great significance for the local Aboriginal people of Noongar .

Flora and fauna

In addition to the plants in the wetlands of the national park, large eucalyptus and other plants, including orchids , also grow .

Several species of mammals live in the area of ​​the national park, including the brush-tailed rat kangaroo , derby wallaby , numbat , and tammar wallaby . There are 50 species of waterfowl on Muir Lake, including the little bittern , Australian bittern , South Sea moorhen , coot , black swan and herring-headed gull , which also breed there. 52,000 migratory birds were counted, including the red throated sandpiper .
