The Tathra National Park (English Tathra National Park ) is a 43 km² national park in the west of Western Australia , Australia . It is located about 270 km north of Perth and 50 km inland from the Indian Ocean on the road between Eneabba and Carnamah .

The name 'Tathra' is derived from the Noongar Aboriginal name for beautiful place .

Surrounded by farmland, the landscape of the national park consists of an undulating sand plain. For unknown reasons, this area around Eneabba was spared from the clearing of the grain farmers in search of new farmland. Flat sandy valleys alternate with rolling hills of laterite .

flora

This landscape offers a habitat for over 2,600 plant species - these are over 70% of the species found in southern Western Australia. Many of them have specially adapted to thrive on the nutrient-poor soils . Some of them have root nodule bacteria , which make nitrogen available to plants. However, most use mycorrhizae - fungi that improve nutrient absorption. Still others are carnivorous plants such as sundew species or live parasitically such as the quandong ( Santalum acuminatum ) and the nuytsia tree ( Nuytsia floribunda ).
