The Alexander Morrison National Park is a national park in Western Australia ( Australia ). It is located 210 km north of Perth and 180 km south of Geraldton in the Shire of Coorow . It is named after Western Australia's first state botanist, Alexander Morrison .

Parkland

The Alexander Morrison National Park consists of sand plains and low laterite edges over sandstone and shale from the Cockleshell Gully Formation of the early Jurassic . Sandy heather habitats are the most common form of vegetation. In the park, however, there are also low forests and malls , typical for this area, especially in the western part of the park. The predominant eucalypts there are the “Powder-barked Wandoo” ( Eucalyptus accedens ) and “Mallalie” ( E. eudesmoides ). In the heathland areas you can find all the species that are typical of this region, such as Banksien , Dryandra , Hakea and Greville species, but also some rare species such as the spiral bush ( Spirogardnera rubescens ).

history

The areas for the national park were set aside by the Department of Lands and Surveys on May 23, 1969 and were declared Class A areas in 1970 and 1971, which means that the use of these areas can only be changed by Parliament. At the same time, they were placed under the administration of the National Parks Authority of Western Australia. The park got its name on October 8, 1971.
