The Midgegooroo National Park (English: Midgegooroo National Park ) is a national park in Western Australia southeast of the city of Perth . Until 2008 it was called Canning National Park . The national park is located in the catchment area of ​​the Canning Reservoir , which is why it is important for the water supply of the metropolis of Perth.

The park was established in November 2004.

Surname

The name of the 24.92 km² park goes back to an Aborigine . Midgegooroo was a distinguished Elder of the Noongar , a tribal leader. He lived in the Perth area at the time of the first European settlement. He resisted the settlement of the Europeans, who displaced him and his tribe from their living and cultural space. Midgegooroo was captured and executed on May 22, 1833. His son was Yagan , who continued his resistance.
